Our cottage is within the Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park, very private with no neighbours! Water/Boat access only, cottage is 700 metres from the Long Lake Lodge Marina and automobile parking area. There are also canoe and motorboat rentals available from Long Lake Lodge (next door to the cottage’s parking space, same boat launch area).

This private, recently renovated cottage nestled within the Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park offers a rare and unique opportunity to enjoy nature within the park’s 375 sq km of wilderness. The cottage is surrounded on all sides by the park’s pristine forest and lakes. No neighbours!

INTERIOR DESCRIPTION

The cottage is a special place, built with open concept kitchen, living room, dining room, large windows overlooking the lake, cathedral ceilings, white washed walls, new kitchen and bathroom and refinished vintage floors anchored by a stone hearth and wood stove. Four high powered ceiling fans keep you cool on hot summer days while the wood stove and base board heaters throughout the cottage keep the place cozy in cooler months. The main cottage has two bedrooms and the boathouse over the lake has two beds and is the most amazing place to sleep.

Bunkie: queen & 1 twin-king bed (twin pulls out to a king bed)

Cottage Water: lake water is filtered but please bring own drinking water

EXTERIOR DESCRIPTION

A very large floating dock is the focal point of the shoreline with deep water for swimming. The boathouse dock has a sandy shore with shallow entry making this very child and pet friendly. The cottage has over 300 square feet of deck, 220’ of waterfront and a campfire with a panoramic view of the lake.

Includes 14’ Yamaha boat and 6HP motor (boater’s license is mandatory), 2 x 12′ kayaks, canoe and 2 smaller kayaks.

ACTIVITIES NEARBY

The Town of Apsley (10 km) on Route 28 offers a grocery store, LCBO, beer store, antique stores, ice cream hut, and boutique coffee house. There are several dining options along Route 28 from casual to fine dining. Located in Woodview (30 min) is Petroglyphs Provincial Park which holds Canada’s largest collection of ancient First Nations petroglyphs and great hiking trails.

Hawks Nest is a very unique and special place. The cottage was a perfect size for our family of five. The bunkie was terrific and was some added privacy for the kids. The kitchen was modern and well equipped. The dining room table was large and in front of a beautiful window. The outdoor dining area and sitting was excellent. The dock size was fantastic. This is the only cottage on this dead end arm. In a week we saw a few canoes go by and some small tinnies. No high speed boat traffic or noise! Our family had a great time at Hawks Nest Retreat. It is such a beautiful and serene location– I can understand why the owners call it their favourite place! The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed; the bunkie was an awesome bonus for the kids to have their own little hangout! We swam off the dock into the deep water, went fishing and kayaked, fed the chipmunks, played games, ate well and had a Christmas in July movie marathon with the Christmas DVD’s!! James, the owner, was great to communicate with and provided all the necessary information needed to enjoy our stay! We had a great stay at this cottage. It was beautiful inside and out, very private (we couldn’t see a single neighbour and only saw an occasional boat pass by). The dock was large enough for 6 people and 2 dogs to relax comfortably. The cottage had lots of floor and ceiling fans to keep it cool during the hot July days. The bunky was adorable and had electricity as well so it was very comfortable to stay in. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed and lots of storage for the things we brought. The cottage had a comfy couch, large dining table and tons of books and games for entertainment. The bathroom was updated and clean. Tons of windows looking over the lake- it was a beautiful view. The porch around the cottage was large and had lots of nice furniture to relax on. The fire pit was at the same level as the cottage so it was nice to relax and sit by at night. Hawks nest retreat provided a perfect holiday experience for our family – a private quiet bay with a great dock for swimming . The kitchen had everything we needed for some gourmet meals, and the cottage was equipped with very comfortable furniture in the living area and deck for an evening of games with the kids.
